Vote YES on Question 7: Legalize Starter Homes

I am proud to be a member of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® and to support Question 7 on the November 3 ballot, alongside the Boston Globe, Abundant Housing Massachusetts, and more than 150 local groups and elected officials.

Why This Matters

The median home price in Greater Boston has reached $799,450. Too many Massachusetts residents, first-time buyers, young families, and seniors looking to downsize are being priced out entirely. Question 7 is the only measure on the 2026 ballot directly addressing the housing crisis.

What Question 7 Does

Question 7 makes it easier to build smaller, lower-cost homes by allowing single-family homes on lots of at least 5,000 square feet, rather than requiring the larger, more expensive lots many communities currently mandate. Cities and towns still retain the right to set reasonable local regulations.

🏠 More Homes Built

An estimated 2,200 to 5,700 new homes could be built statewide each year.

📉 Lower Costs

Smaller lots mean smaller homes at lower price points, making ownership reachable again.

🎯 Real Urgency

Massachusetts needs 222,000 new units by 2035. This is a concrete step forward.

Who Benefits

  • First-time homebuyers entering a tough market

  • Young families looking for an affordable place to put down roots

  • Seniors ready to downsize without leaving their communities

  • Anyone seeking a smaller, lower-cost home in Massachusetts

Make Your Voice Heard

Vote YES on Question 7 by Tuesday, November 3. Then help spread the word by sharing this with friends, family, and colleagues on social media.
